SHODAN (often stylized as SHŌDAN) is a Japanese word that translates to “first dan” or “beginning level” in martial arts (such as Judo, Karate, or Aikido). It refers to the first black belt degree — a significant milestone representing mastery of the basics and the start of advanced training.

In the context of the yacht, the new owner chose the name SHODAN likely for its elegant, minimalist, and philosophical Japanese connotation (strength, discipline, and a new beginning). It has no direct connection to the famous AI character “SHODAN” from the video game System Shock — that appears to be coincidental.

Who is the new owner?

The new owner of the 90m Oceanco SHODAN (ex-DreAMBoat / ex-Project Y716) is anonymous as of March 2026.

• The previous owner was Arthur M. Blank (co-founder of The Home Depot and owner of the Atlanta Falcons), who sold the yacht after taking delivery of his much larger new 111m Oceanco (also named DreAMBoat / Project Y726) in late 2025.
• The sale reportedly happened in 2024/early 2025, and the yacht was renamed SHODAN shortly after by the new buyer.
