The 229.66ft Custom motor yacht motor yacht ‘Joy’ was built by Feadship in Netherlands, she was delivered to her owner in 2016. This luxury vessel’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Bannenberg & Rowell. The yacht’s interior has been designed by Studio Indigo.

Joy can accommodate 12 guests across an owner’s stateroom located forward of the yacht, 2 VIP and 3 guest cabins. The owner’s cabin has been linked with the foredeck of the yacht to provide continuity between exterior and interior spaces. Together with an extensive use of glass, this link from the owner’s cabin has helped reinforce the stateroom’s 270-degrees view.

Feadship has launched the 70-metre Joy at its Kaag yard in the presence of her owners, invited guests and the workforce responsible for her design, engineering and construction. Featuring a great wealth of exterior spaces and a contemporary classic interior, Joy is the first superyacht to feature an exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell and the first Feadship with an interior by the architects at Studio Indigo. The result is an astonishing superyacht which truly meets the owner’s brief to ‘create something totally different to every other yacht.’

Joy has far wider side decks than is typical aboard a megayacht of her dimensions. In combination with the overall 37’7” (11.5-meter) beam, those surely emphasize the voluminous feel aboard Joy. Yet another new idea the owners requested of Bannenberg & Rowell was what Dickie Bannenberg terms “surface texturing.” Sections of the superstructure coamings along passageways are carved away. In those same areas, the overheads are angled upward. The reasoning behind these was to permit more light to flood inside.

The elongated foredeck features a basketball court so guests can sharpen their jump shots while friends cheer them on underneath a shaded lounge. At the rear, the transom door transforms into a canopy to cover the sizable swim platform. And a speakeasy-style disco room features plush seats, colorful lighting, and a wall-size television. Also equipped with a dedicated tender bay and a gym that opens onto a deck, the yacht (which accommodates up to 12 guests and 17 crew members) provides ample room to enjoy.
