AD100 designer Roger Thomas worked on casino mogul Steve Wynn’s 300-foot super yacht Aquarius. Thomas, who serves as the executive vice president of design for Wynn Design & Development, collaborated on interiors that exude the duo’s signature sophistication without sacrificing a shred of comfort.
Aquarius is the latest in Thomas and Wynn’s 35-year-long design partnership, one that has produced numerous hotels (Wynn Las Vegas or the newly opened Wynn Palace Cotai in Macau), residences (there’s Wynn’s Manhattan duplex, featured in Architectural Digest’s March 2014 issue, or his Las Vegas home, featured in 2010), and, you guessed it, yachts. As is typical of their design process, it all started with a “lively discussion about [Wynn’s] concepts, priorities, and big idea,” says Thomas. In this case, the goal was to craft interiors that emphasized the boat’s unparalleled panoramic views (the product of oversize windows), high ceilings, and open floor plan, while adhering to hospitality principles cultivated over three decades in the hotel industry.
“With 35 years of working together on hotel design, we have a way of working that considers every guest comfort and places us in the guest state of mind, so that conveniences are always considered,” says Thomas. Think clothing and luggage storage, places for jewelry and pocket change, and charging stations for the electronic accessories of modern life, to name just a few of the yacht’s guest-friendly features.
Thomas sourced a number of furnishings from one of Wynn’s favorite designers, Hervé Van der Straeten.
Illuminating all of these details is an extensive system of architectural lighting—1,047 LED fixtures to be exact—that helps brighten interior and exterior spaces while adhering to the stringent codes of naval architecture. For this aspect of the project, Wynn and Thomas called on Tom Kowalczuk, who oversees lighting for Wynn Design & Development.
The 301.84ft Custom motor yacht motor yacht ‘Aquarius’ was built by Feadship in Netherlands at their Aalsmeer shipyard , she was delivered to her owner in 2016. This luxury vessel’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of De Voogt. The yacht’s interior has been designed by Sinot Yacht Design.
ACCOMMODATION
Aquarius’s interior configuration has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 14 guests overnight in 7 cabins, comprising a master suite, 6 VIP staterooms. She is also capable of carrying up to 31 crew onboard in 16 cabins to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
CONSTRUCTION & DIMENSIONS
Aquarius features a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. She was built to Lloyds Register ✠ EMEA +100 A1, SSC, Yacht, Mono, G6, ✠ LMC, Shipright SCM, UMS classification society rules.
This luxury yacht is also fitted with ‘zero speed stabilizers’ which work at anchor, increasing on-board comfort when the yacht is stationary, particularly in rough waters.
PERFORMANCE
Powered by 2 MTU (16V 4000 M63L) 2,990hp diesel engines Motor yacht Aquarius is capable of a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 275,800 fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 55,400 of fresh water.
