The first Otam SD35 superyacht Gipsy has been delivered the Italian yard announced at the Monaco Yacht Show 2016.

This fully custom 35.3 metre aluminium yacht was built for an experienced Italian yacht owner who wanted a shallow draft of just 2.2 metres in order to explore the US and Caribbean waters.
Gipsy was delivered to her owner at the end of August 2016.
Otam sold the first of its new semi-displacement superyachts, the Otam SD35, in December 2014. The new product line has been designed inside and out by Tommaso Spadolini and puts a focus on maximising the interior volumes of this 295GT yacht.

Upon the signing of the order, Gianfranco Zanoni, CEO of Otam, said, “We are proud that it is ‘Made in Italy’, with the owner, designer, architect and shipyard all Italian.”

The aluminium construction allowed the owners to create a “one of a kind” yacht, says Otam. The layout has been designed to suit the owner’s lifestyle, featuring a 40 square metre saloon with a movie theatre and full beam dining room.

Four en-suite VIP cabins are situated on the lower deck, while the upper deck is devoted to the owner, with the owner’s cabin opening directly onto the aft deck. There are dayheads on each deck and key features include a superyacht spa pool on the sun deck.

The crew of six will be accommodated in four spacious cabins that were finished to the same standards as the guest cabins, while the spacious aft tender garage allows Gipsy to carry an inflatable RIB and a Jetski.

Otam adds that Gispy benefits from the experience gained through its Millennium line of fast planing yachts and the design expertise of long-time collaborator Umberto Tagliavini, who developed her naval architecture.

Power comes from a pair of 1,897hp CAT Acer 32 engines for a top speed of 20 knots. With a total fuel capacity of 23,000 litres, Gipsy has a maximum cruising range of more than 2,000 nautical miles at 11 knot

The Genoa-based shipyard has managed to realise one ambitious repeat client’s dream to build his own private, family-styled, oasis according to his own set of requirements. To achieve this, Otam relied on designer Tommaso Spadolini to bring the owner’s dreams to life.

If it is difficult to accurately estimate the size of this 35-metre, it could be because of the deceivingly high freeboard and sleek superstructure that together give Gipsy a unique outline of a much bigger yacht. Otam managed to create a 300 GT yacht that measures a mere 35 metres. This not only adds to the vessel’s seakeeping capabilities and tremendously generous interior spaces, but immediately sets Gipsy apart from other yachts in this size range.

Internal staircases that connect the main, upper and sun decks keep the side profile clean and free up valuable space on each of the aft decks. The sun deck is ideally set up for large family gatherings with a central bar area and day head. A large Jacuzzi and generous sun pad areas are on offer for those wishing to unwind under the sun.

The foredeck area gets covered by a temporary bimini to extend the outdoor relaxation areas on offer.

The unique layout on Gipsy is a prime example of Otam’s ability to accommodate each owner’s list of exclusive demands. Working together with Spadolini on the interior was Otam’s interior architect, Laura Mirabella, whose role it was to oversee the outfitting and final decoration of guest areas.

The main deck is dedicated entirely to socialising and dining in style. The area ahead of the main saloon, commonly reserved for a large VIP suite or full beam owner’s cabin, has been utilised as a single dining room with a view through the three distinctive portholes on either side.

A rare setup on a yacht of this size, and certainly one of the highlights about gipsy’s interior is the private owner’s deck. The entire area aft of the wheelhouse on the upper deck has been devoted to the use of the owner. The ‘apartment’ style layout of the suite is perfect for escaping the bustle of common guest spaces with the ability to enjoy separated time from the family when needed.

Four VIP cabins with twin and double beds are located on the lower deck, each with its own en-suite bathroom. The central passage leads through to the crew area which is equipped with four crew cabins. If it had not been for the fire door separating these areas, one might think this area could be an extension of the guest cabins judging by the level of finishing of these spaces.

In regards to performance, Gipsy builds on the yard’s engineering capabilities enhanced by the successful experience designing and building the Millennium Line, together with their long-standing partner naval architect Umberto Tagliavini, has designed a very efficient semi-displacement hull that will give Gipsy a top speed of 20 knots and a considerable range of over 2,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.
