M/Y SHACKLETON 109m Explore Yacht by Lürssen Yachts
Lurssen, the German shipyard renowned for its super yachts, is currently constructing the 109-meter explorer yacht, SHACKLETON, also known as Project IceCap or Northern Star. Owned by Len Blavatnik, the yacht is set to be delivered in 2023.
Designed as an explorer yacht, SHACKLETON is built to navigate the harshest of environments with its robust construction, ice-breaking capabilities, and impressive range. The yacht is equipped with top-notch specifications, including Caterpillar engines, a top speed of over 20 knots, a cruising speed of 16 knots, and a range of approximately 6,000 nautical miles.
The yacht’s designer has not yet been officially released by Lurssen, but yacht enthusiasts speculate that the yacht is an Espen Oeino project. The yacht will be able to accommodate up to 22 guests in luxurious cabins and is equipped with a host of amenities, including a swimming pool, a helipad, and a large tender garage.
The yacht’s name pays homage to the legendary explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and embodies his spirit of adventure and exploration. As the construction of SHACKLETON progresses, yacht enthusiasts eagerly await its official unveiling in 2023.
In addition, SHACKLETON recently underwent sea trials off the coast of Germany, indicating that the project is well underway. The yacht’s sleek and rugged design, with an inverted bow similar to the X Bow used in commercial vessels, suggests that it is built to tackle rough seas and challenging conditions.
Overall, SHACKLETON is one of the largest private projects currently in build, and it is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of those who seek adventure on the high seas.
