AMELS CUSTOM 78M super yacht by Amels Holland B.V.

21 JANUARY 2020 : The largest-ever fully custom Amels superyacht has now arrived at the yard’s Vlissingen facility to begin outfitting.

The Espen Øino-designed 78 metre superyacht will remain at the facility until its scheduled delivery in 2021.

This will make the 78 metre newly-launched superyacht the largest Amels yet on its delivery.

The launch ceremony of the yacht in December was attended by the owner’s team, represented by Andrew Tree of Superyacht Technical Services, along with exterior designer and naval architect Espen Øino and Amels managing director Rose Damen.

Tree described the project as a “truly custom yacht, with stunning design both inside and out.” This could be only be achieved, he said, “with the greatest collaboration, having the very best of European design and the highest quality of construction and management.”

“It has been a pleasure to represent the owner throughout this prestigious build process and we look forward to her completion and delivery in 2021.”

Amels announced the contract in 2017. The megayacht is not part of the Limited Editions series, therefore explaining the Full Custom designation. Styling is from Espen Øino, as is the general arrangement, for an undisclosed customer.

The shipyard is employing modular construction. The practice is commonplace in commercial shipbuilding, since it saves time. Interestingly, even though other yacht builders have super-size superyachts on order, not all follow this same practice.

The 2,850 GT project is the shipyard’s largest project by volume, outweighing the 83-metre Heywood-designed Here Comes the Sun. Designer Espen Øino worked closely with the owner to create the exterior of the new superyacht, whereas Amels’ in-house design and engineering team oversaw the naval architecture and engineering of the vessel. Zuretti Interior Design was selected by the owner to stylise the interiors.
Espen Øino added: “It’s definitely a unique project and it was an intense collaboration with Amels and I think it’s been an amazing journey so far since signing the contract in 2017. The layout with the big pool on the upper deck with the boats below either side, but they are all hidden so you don’t see it. And of course the balconies with the direct access from the cabins out which you can spot very easily and it’s actually looking pretty amazing. A lot of people don’t notice this because when you look at the profile view they’re not very visible, but when you draw the boat in 3D you can see these balconies coming out.”

CUSTOM 78M AMELS was sold at the Monaco Yacht Show 2017, where the owner appointed Espen Oeino as the exterior designer and Zuretti Interior Design to develop the interiors.

EXTERIOR

The lower deck swim platform provides easy access to the tenders and can also be used for sunbathing close to the water. Above, the main deck aft is designed for alfresco dining and outdoor living shaded by the upper deck overhang. The upper deck aft has a spa pool, while the foredeck is fitted with a Jacuzzi, a broad sunbed and a fire pit on the bow.

The bridge deck aft offers another alfresco living space, and the sundeck forward has sensational views of the surroundings.
